Welcome to Firstbyte - IT Training for Geeks!
Thanks for your interest in FIRSTBYTE.
This section serves to introduce The Project. It sheds light on the project aims and goals and explains how to get involved.
Firstbyte brings together organizations and individuals committed to improving the employment situation through training offerings aimed at enhancing the employability of IT graduates in a self-sustaining Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector. We work with those who through studying, teaching, communicating and collaborating are contributing to make some of the world's fastest-growing operating systems a success on the African continent.
Mission
We aim to become a leading innovation-driven ICT training program meeting the challenges of industry by offering a solid foundation in free software and providing specialization modules tailored to the needs of a growing economy in transformation. An open platform ensuring continuous sustainable growth and routine innovation shall provide the basis for our competitive advantage.
Our Ultimate Mission
We are here to help the government, enterprises, organizations and individuals ride the wave of affordable excellence, provided by implementing free and open source software. In doing so, we do not blindly praise open source; we train people to recognize the strengths, weaknesses, emerging trends and opportunities. We connect experts with decision makers ready to give open source software a try.
Goals
MDG
We intend to help the project country (Ghana) realize its set targets under the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
Education
Firstbyte aims to set higher standards through increased use of ICT in education, augmenting the number of participating universities and intensifying ICT use within educational institutions. Throughout its programs, the Firstbyte Project shall commit to extensive use of FOSS.
FOSS
We aim to achieve higher penetration/usage of FOSS in academia, public and private organizations and enterprise/industries.
